Benjamin Erny is a teaching-artist, dad to three creative little humans, and spouse/friend to an inspiring teaching-poet. He is an international visual arts educator who believes, like Joseph Beuys, that “everyone is an artist” — with the opportunity to hold agency over our attention in a way that moves us towards becoming empathetic global citizens. Benjamin sees the interconnectedness of all things, appreciates the mystery of the unknown, and is comfortable holding space for unanswerable questions.
Benjamin is a current third-year MFA Art Studio candidate at the University of Kentucky’s School of Art and Visual Studies. He is grateful for the contribution of faculty and peers to his artistic approach and practice, which is being continually informed by their insightful work and generous words. He is also thankful for the engagement, persistence, and kindness of his students who remind him of the potential we all have as artists.
“We are utterly, absolutely indebted to each other. When we deny that, we destroy the world.” – Ross Gay
